Small Grants Program

The Coalition is pleased to announce the winners of our 2010 Small Grants Fall Competition and support their efforts to advance the interests of people with disabilities across the state. This year's winners are:

WAVES, Inc. in Franklin, TN has been serving families and children with developmental delays in Williamson County since 1984.  The Autism Spectrum Disorders Program,  a component of WAVES, was initiated in October 2008 to provide comprehensive evaluations and family-centered learning plans for young children with autism or autistic-like behaviors.  The program is funded to increase the public awareness of the services provided so that more children and families in the Middle Tennessee area will benefit.  

Epilepsy Foundation of East Tennessee, Knoxville, TN is a support program established to ensure that people with seizures are able to participate in all life experiences through education about the causes, triggers, social aspects, treatments and first aid methods.  This program received funding to install and setup a multi-user intranet web application with a SQL server backend database. It will track client service data, volunteer and donor information, and prepare reports for clients.

STAR Center, Inc., Jackson, TN .  The program is funded to build supports for families facing the challenges of autism in three components.  The first component of the project includes art therapy, music therapy, and academic Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) work.  The second component is the creation and implementation of a model program to support siblings of those with autism.  Finally, STAR will provide a support group for parents and caregivers of children with autism.

STEP, Inc. Greeneville, TN provides information and training to families of students with disabilities to ensure that families have the reliable and timely information needed to be fully informed when making educational decisions for, and with, their children. The program is funded to create and launch an electronic training and information system called a Learning Management System (LMS) as a tool free of charge for families, students and professionals to provide high quality information at the convenience of the individual seeking it.

Introduction
The Tennessee Disability Coalition is pleased to announce our semi-annual round of discretionary grants, awarded in May and November each year.  The Application with Guidelines for May 2010 is now available at our website in the Small Grants Section.

 

Purpose
In keeping with the mission of the Coalition to help build a society that includes and values people with disabilities, the purpose of the grants is to build capacity in the disability community to serve individuals with disabilities and their families. In general, there is no funding available for one-time conferences.

Deadlines
Letter of Interest: March 19, 2010 by noon
Full Proposal, if requested: April 30, 2010 by noon

Eligibility
The Tennessee Disability Coalition will make grants to IRS-designated tax-exempt organizations-501(c)(3) and governmental entities. Private foundations and agency members of the Coalition Grant Committee are not eligible to apply.

Amount of funding
The Coalition has approximately $100,000 available for discretionary grant making this year, with $50,000 available for the Spring grants. Five grants for up to $10,000 each for a one-year term may be awarded in this grant cycle. Awards will be merit based, following the point system outlined in the application.
