Save Family Voices

Family Voices LogoTennessee is home to the very first statewide Family Voices chapter, a fact that fills the Coalition with great pride; however, Family Voices future is dimming.  The US Congress has failed in repeated attempts to extend funding to save Family Voice’s Family-to-Family Health Information Centers (F2F HICs).

BIG NEWS: National Council on Disability is Holding Quarterly Meeting in Nashville

There have been quite a few developments in ADA and related issues the past several weeks so we wanted to bring many of them together in one place for easy reference.  These developments include lawsuits, advisories, events, and the release of Proposed Regulations implementing the ADA Amendments Act of 2008.

 

EEOC Seeks Comments on Proposed ADA Regulations

EEOC LogoLast year President Bush signed the ADA Amendments Act into law.  It was the first major reform of the ADA since it's passage in 1990 and a critical element was the expansion of the definition of disability so that more people would be protected by its provisions. However, that was just the first step toward improving the ADA's protections.

TN Parent Co-Authors Autism Book

Cover of bookJohn Shouse, a member of the Autism Society of Middle Tennessee and long-time disability advocate, is co-author of a new book titled: The Autism Checklist.  His co-author is Paula Kluth, Ph.D., a consultant, teacher, advocate, and scholar who works with teachers and families of children with disabilities.

Coalition Small Grants Competition

The Tennessee Disability Coalition is pleased to announce our semi-annual round of discretionary grants, awarded in May and November each year.  The Application with Guidelines for November 2009 is now available at our website.

Purpose
In keeping with the mission of the Coalition to help build a society that includes and values people with disabilities, the purpose of the grants is to build capacity in the disability community to serve individuals with disabilities and their families.
