Arc of Washington County Seeks Executive Director
The Arc of Washington County is seeking an Executive Director for an organization that serves over 800 persons with disabilities and their family members in northeast Tennessee. We are a not-for-profit organization. The organization provides support coordination, family support, respite, and early intervention services. Funding is provided by the Tennessee Division of Mental Retardation Services, Department of Education, United Way of Washington County, and Washington County, Tennessee. We partner with two Washington County churches to provide respite services to families of people with disabilities. The board members are parents of children with disabilities and community members.
The organization has a rich history of support for people, families, and the communities in which they live since 1962. We serve 12 counties in upper east Tennessee. The Arc of Washington County is an affiliated chapter of The Arc of Tennessee and The Arc of the United States.
TRAITS & CHARACTERISTICS: We are looking for a visionary and strategic leader who can work effectively with people, families, staff, partners, and funding entities. We seek a creative thinker who can be innovative as well as pragmatic in facilitating the growth of our Arc. The successful applicant will bring emotional, intellectual, and analytical skills that impact on the quality of supports to people with disabilities, their family members, and the many partners that comprise the communities of practice and networks of practice we share.
The successful applicant will possess strong written and oral skills in presenting the vision and mission of our Arc to legislators and community leaders and will be able to lead others in creative exploration and dialogue to design a positive and worthy future for our Arc. The successful applicant will have the ability to conceptualize, develop, and evaluate programs and services.
CORE DUTIES:
- Leadership of staff in meeting the vision and mission of our Arc.
- Stewardship of the financial and good will assets of our Arc-- including developing annual operating budgets that reflect the strategic goals for our Arc, generating revenue by creating new programs and/or services that support our mission, and raising funds from current and new foundations, corporate, or individual donors.
- Development, implementation, and accomplishment of annual organizational performance objectives that drive continuous improvement in supports and services.
- Interacts with other organizations and media such as United Way of Washington County, provider agencies, churches, county, community fraternal clubs, local newspapers, and television stations to promote the supports and services needed by persons with disabilities and their families.
- Provision of information, advice, and counsel to the chairperson of the board, board committees, and board of directors in the creation of programs, policies, and strategic direction of the organization.
- Administration of overall operations of our Arc insuring contract obligations are met, licensing standards and regulations are met, resources are used in a way that promotes program effectiveness and efficiency, development of a working environment that promotes creativity, cohesion, and collaboration among staff, consumers, funding entities, and partners.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
The successful applicant will possess necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform each of the core duties satisfactorily and possess the traits & characteristics described above.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
A Master’s degree in the human service field or related field required and five years of increasingly responsible administrative experience, at least three of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.
