Why Participate? …Why be Involved?
As Citizens we have the right and the responsibility to cast our votes and participate in the governing of our communities. Every election affects each of us. The policies developed and implemented by those we elect impact us every day.
The VOTE! campaign is designed to give each of us an opportunity to participate in the process. Each contribution, be it of time, talent or ideas, is an important component in making the voting and election processes user friendly and accessible to all citizens.
We invite you to be part of a non-partisan, statewide voter empowerment campaign to organize the disability community to be an important force in the political and policy process during each election season. By joining the Disability Action Network you can support the VOTE! Campaign and become a member of a group of Tennesseans who will no longer be ignored by our elected officials. Together we can:
- Increase the number of people with disabilities and their supporters who are registered to vote and who regularly do so.
- Decrease and eliminate barriers to voting for people with disabilities, including policy barriers, access barriers, social and practical barriers.
- Establish a statewide network of Disabilty Action Network members who can work on voter registration, polling place access, Get-Out-the-Vote efforts, and election campaigns in their own communities.
- Provide broad-based and targeted voter education on both the voting process and disability-related issues.
