Causes of TBI, 2002
Motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of
brain injury across all ages. Other common causes among children
and adolescents include falls, violence, and sports-related accidents.
Illustrated below are the causes of injury as recorded in Tennessee's
TBI Registry. The TBI Registry tracks the number of people admitted
to Tennessee hospitals for treatment of a brain injury. Since 1996,
over 7,000 persons, ages 3 to 21 have been reported to the registry
by hospitals statewide.
